Abstract The order of the use of the emblem of the Red Cross with a recognizable or protective purpose is investigated, namely: those or other objects having such an emblem carry out the humanitarian function of saving the wounded and sick. The activity of national societies is analyzed, which is connected with the use of the emblem and should correspond to the basic principles of the Red Cross. It is concluded that the Emblem of the Red Cross, the Red Crescent and the Red Crystal is a symbol of the protection of medical personnel and medical institutions, that is, it is prohibits the illegal use of the emblem.
